I will start with a quick emphasize shapes & spots of color/value. We will break down our scene into design & rhythm with focal area.
Toni Williams has been a professional artist and muralist for over 20 years. She is a member of the Rancho Santa Fe Art Guild, San Dieguito Art Guild and the American Impressionists Society, Signature Member.
A native of New York, Toni moved to San Diego in 1972 to finish her education at UCSD in La Jolla with a Bachelors Degree in Visual Arts. Taken with the arid and temperate climate of Southern California, Toni’s work has been influenced by the great plein air artists in the San Diego Area at the turn of the century, namely Maurice Braun, Charles Fries, Franz Bischoff and William Wendt.
In the pursuit of gaining experience in painting the human form, Toni has studied under the tutelage of friend and mentor, Marileigh Schulte.

Drew Bandish. I am an artist and teacher of popular art classes in San Diego, California. I recently retired from my California school district connected art classes at Foothills Adult Center in El Cajon, the La Mesa Adult Enrichment Center, and MiraCosta College’s Community Services programs. I intend to regroup and continue as a freelance art educator. I am frequently called upon to demonstrate methods and materials, conduct workshops and serve as juror for art exhibitions throughout San Diego County.
I earned my B.A. in Painting and Printmaking and my art teaching credential from San Diego State University. Since 1987, I have dedicated my teaching time to helping others find pleasure, confidence and skill in all art mediums. I am very proud of the numerous success stories among students in our programs ~ several of whom now regularly win awards in art shows they enter. I was nominated Outstanding Instructor by students and staff, which resulted in my receiving the first annual Oasis Award in 2011 for exceptional achievement in teaching with Grossmont Adult Schools. Since then, several of our students have received the Outstanding Student award. I was awarded Signature status for successful participation in the San Diego Watercolor Society at the club’s 38th International Exhibition in October 2018
As a dedicated, life long learner, I appreciate that teaching, demonstrating techniques and preparing lessons has accelerated my own art skills and enhanced my visual perception and creativity, as well.
You can find a number of my watercolor paintings published in Land of Sunlight – Contemporary Paintings of San Diego County by San Diego Flora, James Lightner, editor. The 2007 book features 450 color plates and is laid out as a geographic tour of San Diego County’s coast, valleys, mountains and desert by 110 living artists.

Brady has gone from pursuing a career in snowboarding to creating a unique brand of imaginative and thought-provoking art. Combining unique characters and situations with traditional surroundings, his art reflects his unusual life experience.
He built a successful career as a tattoo artist where he honed his craft. Years later he has retired his tattoo machines and inks for brushes and oils. Brady’s art has been displayed shown in the most noteworthy art cities around the country.

Lorraine has been privately trained in the impressionistic plein air style by other successful artists through workshops and individual lessons. Although she is focused on building a strong body of work, Lorraine does periodically offer private lessons and workshops for artists wishing to learn to paint or improve their skills.
Lorraine’s prior experience includes a corporate career as a strategy consultant where she used her creative talents in new product development. She holds a master’s degree in International Business from University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and a B.A. in Political Science and International Relations from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Over the last 15 years, Lorraine‘s paintings have captured the beauty of the landscape, sea and people surrounding her home in coastal California. Lorraine has been recognized as an outstanding artist being juried into national, state, global associations and shows. She recently won the quick draw event at the Oceanside Plein Air Festival and was honored for another plein air piece on the cover of the Osider Magazine. She was accepted into a juried show of international artists sponsored by the United Nations and her work was displayed in Geneva at the U.N. Palais des Nations. She is a juried member of the Oil Painters of America and the California Art Club and has had her work into shows and showcases for these organizations. She has also exhibited at galleries, venues and juried shows across California and has earned Best in Show, People’s Choice, and First in Category awards in multiple local shows. Lorraine’s work is currently on display at The Oceanside Museum of Art, North Coastal Art Gallery in Carlsbad, and Off Track Gallery in Encinitas.

Chuck is a well-known, award-winning, and Listed Artist working in watercolor, mixed medium, acrylic, and oil paints. He has shown in institutions like the Oceanside Museum of Art, the California Center for the Arts Escondido, the San Diego Museum of Art, and fine galleries like The San Diego Watercolor Society, Adelman Gallery, and Ashton Gallery.
As a watercolorist, Chuck has garnered hundreds of awards for his paintings, holding triple Signature status with the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, Watercolor West, and The San Diego Watercolor Society. He served as Third VP on the 2011 NWS Board and two years as the Member Shows Director on the SDWS Board, plus a concurrent three-year stint as Newsletter Chair on the Board of Directors for the San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild, and 1st Vice President on the Foothills Art Association Board. Chuck is constantly doing workshops, demonstrations, and “paintformances” when he isn’t teaching or mentoring… and brings an open, fun and entertaining attitude to his paintings and classes. He is also a sought-after art show juror.
Lynn has studied at several of the most prestigious art schools in the Northeast including: Rhode Island School of Design, The New York Art Students’ League, the Paier College of Art in Connecticut, and the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. Her work has been shown in galleries throughout the United States and Canada, and is in collections all over the world.
Summering on Martha’s Vineyard Island, Ms. Buettner’s work quickly became known and collected by the local residents and returning island guests. Most originals were sold while still on her easel, and as her clientele grew, it become more difficult to keep up with the demand. Recently she was flown to China to do a art signing at the Canton World Trade Show.
After devoting the last twenty years to painting scenes ranging from realistic to impressionistic, Ms. Buettner is venturing out with her accomplished techniques and abilities, into the exciting and unusual world of intuitive expression. Letting go of conscious thoughts, an exciting, creative, sensual world emerges to be shared with the viewer. She uses colors to portray different aspects of the world as well. For example, green is for the earth and for renewal, and the blacks and overall darkness is for the intensity of the situation. She said these colors were accurate and symbolic of nature

Helen Sharer-Garcia. I think of my works as
encounters with mostly organic fragments bound together with a twist that invokes the spirit for an intriguing visual journey. I want to pull in the viewer into my coffee stained world of interpretation that intertwines of legends, flora, fauna and icons. Sometimes there is a bit of humor thrown in. My process involves the process of transference – subtraction and addition of paint and decayed found objects, creating poetic relationships between organic
and geometric shapes. Experimentation with random folklore themes and images juxtaposing with intriguing botanical shapes leads to deliberate sequestered yet unified shape arrangements.
Cathy Carey . I am best described as a Contemporary Expressive
Colorist, whose favorite part about painting is using color to create emotional meaning and visual depth. In choosing what to paint or how to paint it, I want my pictures to be more than the reality of description, and I strive to fill viewers with a sense of joy. Inspired by Matisse, my goal is to paint what it feels like, not what it looks like. I love to listen to all different kinds of music as I paint – it helps me to show how the movement and interaction of colors and shapes feels like the rhythm and pulse of music and dancers.

Charcee Colosia has a style unlike many artists that is free, loose, expressive and filled with emotion. This class will show you how to spontaneously capture “gestures ” of a live model in a loose style. Great art is created from such freedom.
She has been painting in North County for 40+ years., and enjoys teaching throughout San Diego. Her classes are available in North San Diego County for outdoor watercolor and oil.

Roberta grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. Visiting the High Museum of Art and going to the fledgling Piedmont Park Art Festival, she imagined her paintings would one day hang between the artists she so admired. She attended Vanderbilt University, earned her BA in Art History and returned to Atlanta after graduation where she continued pursuing her passion for art, taking classes at the High Museum and Georgia State University in her spare time.
Moving to San Diego in 1971, Roberta took art classes as time would allow and has since enjoyed many forms of expression from sculpture to copper enameling, oil painting to mural assignments. Today, she focuses on figurative subjects in water-based media and acollage.
Roberta is an award-winning, Signature member of The San Diego Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, and International Society of Acrylic Painters (ISAP) | Nautilus Fellow. Often juried into prestigious competitive international shows, you can enjoy her artwork regularly hanging at the San Diego Watercolor Society.

A San Diego native and graduate of San Diego State University, Jayne Spencer has been painting for more than 30 years and exhibiting throughout Southern California. Her father’s paintings and her graphic design degree strongly influence her work, which focuses on bold lines, shapes, and color.
Well-known for her representational works, and more recently for her portraits, Jayne ran her own gallery in Encinitas, and has exhibited in the Coal Gallery, San Dieguito Off Track Gallery, and Del Mar Art Center, as well as with the San Diego Watercolor Society, where she’s a member. She’s won several awards and has been in San Diego Watercolor Society’s International Show and the California Watercolor Association national show twice.
Jayne has combined her passion for art and her skills in teaching to develop a uniquely blended style in the classroom. Her methods enable students at all levels to better grasp the concepts of watercolor, while also feeling at ease in the learning and creative process. One of her greatest joys is helping her students embark on their creative journeys.
Jayne built her own garden cottage studio in beautiful Encinitas, CA, where she offers beginner, intermediate and advanced watercolor classes in a supportive, small class environment. She also offers weekend workshops for skill development, and is launching her new beginner watercolor classes online this fall.

Natively Native Californian artist Kate Joiner uses instinctive loose brushwork and color palette as a representation of her surroundings. She received her BFA in Multi Media from San Diego State University. Her work has been shown in a variety of shows throughout San Diego and The Oceanside Museum of Art.

Fernando Micheli is a long-time resident of Laguna Beach, California, and a member of LPAPA Laguna Plein Air Painter’s Association. He was born in Fiano, near Lucca, Italy, and immigrated to the United States with his family in 1955. After High School in Watsonville, California, he decided to pursue schooling in Pinerolo (Piedmont), Pietrasanta, Florence, and Lucca (Tuscany) for two years, which not only improved his fluency in Italian but allowed him the time to travel and attain the proficiency needed to apply to the University of Florence in Art and Architecture. After much thought, he eventually longed to return to San Francisco and his family and pursue a design-oriented profession graduating from the University of California at Berkeley’s College of Environmental Design in Landscape Architecture. After graduating with a BA in Environmental Design.
What attracts Fernando to painting is the immediacy of Plein Air painting. “One not only needs to capture the feeling of the subject, but also the essence of light and color as it bounces, reflects, and scatters on the physical world. Painting is truly seeing more intensely than you can hope to see. Painting is a life-long pursuit, one that requires always honing and learning new skills to build a vocabulary that just doesn’t reproduce reality, but can capture the emotional essence of nature. I focus on the immediacy of Plein Air painting and Representational art, capturing the beauty of Southern California.

Drawing & painting have always been a part of watercolor artist California life. Colorful jars of paint were within arm’s reach at his mother’s ceramic studio, AKA “The Garage”. While on his educational journey, he worked in mixed media but eventually focused on watercolor. Gabriel resides in San Diego, California with his family and has a studio at Spanish Village in Balboa Park. He is a juried member of the Salmagundi Club, the Southwestern Art Association, and Spanish Village Art Center (Studio 34A). In addition, he is a member of the San Diego Watercolor Society where he serves as the Plein Air manager, the National Watercolor Society Publicity Director and is a member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association.
In 2021 he became a Daniel Smith Brand Ambassador. He regularly leads and participates in paint demos, workshops, and paint-outs. His artworks are found in various galleries, libraries, art districts and has work hung in private collections around the world.

There are so many wonderful avenues to take in art. I love the exploration! Whether I’m standing in front of my easel or a classroom full of students, it’s what keeps me excited about this expressive journey: it’s ever-changing, always adventurous, and completely delightful.
I wake up most mornings and head off to my studio with papers in one hand, paint in the other, and something in my mind I can’t wait to get onto a canvas. The day’s adventure starts from there. Often using cast-off papers and substrates as my favorite mediums to work with, I’m always surprised at what people toss away. I feel like I’m saving valuable resources while creating something of beauty with them in the process.
