Charlotte’s Bio

I have won many awards at different galleries in North County. I love impressionist, splashy, fun painting. Charcee.com is my website.

Artist’s statement

I am proficient in watercolor, acrylics, oil, and pen and ink.

I have won awards in San Diego county at local galleries and competitions. I have had the opportunity to take classes from many prominent artists, such as the late Charles Reid – recent interesting classes with a creative art group and the college of Sierra Madre.

Recently one of my watercolors won first place at the north county art league, judged by Chuck McPherson. Also an honorable mention north county art league. Off-track gallery monthly show I won first place in watercolor for January and February.

In the future, I’m entering the international show with the San Diego watercolor society.

In judging a painting, there are many ways and means that are told thru out time.  I want to go into a painting walk around and around and go to a focal point.  One has to have faith in their style.

Raised in Europe, and moving frequently, my art was the only thing that always went with me, as much never fit into a suitcase. Therefore, I learned to pull from memories. I believe it is the job of a true creative artist to always deepen the mystery of the story. Art without emotion is not art.

Being born in Germany I was surrounded by the Woodcut Prints of Albrecht Durer, Kathie Kollwitz, Ernst Barlach, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, and Franz Marc, just to name a few. As they did, I use special woodcut tools and shun electrical tools to stay true to the tradition.

Art has been woven into my life since childhood, when my father would sit my siblings and me around the kitchen table with a bowl of fruit to paint. From those early sessions, I carried forward his love of art into a lifelong exploration of form, color, and expression.
