
73rd Fine Art Open Annual Awards Show
Since 1950 our Gallery annually opens its doors for this highly anticipated open show, that welcomes the creativity and talent of artists from across California. It is juried, judged and awarded, and underscores a commitment to celebrate the diverse, and dynamic art scene of many artists.
Registration is open until July 14. (Please note the Applications will close after 250 entries, due to the Gallery space constraints, so apply early).

About our Awards Judge: Daniel Foster, a leader in Arts and Culture
Daniel Foster is an award-winning arts and community leader for the past 35 years in the San Diego, Riverside/San Bernardino, and San Francisco regions. Foster is the past Executive Director of two large regional art museums (Oceanside Museum of Art and Riverside Art Museum), and past President/CEO of the Inland Empire Community Foundation (largest public community foundation/nonprofit leader in Riverside/San Bernardino Counties).
Additionally, during his career, Foster has founded/co-founded seven nonprofit/community-based organizations. such as the North County Arts Network (NCAN, nonprofit arts agency for north county San Diego arts sector), Arts Connection (official State of California/San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors arts council agency), Desert Plein Air Association, Inland Empire Funder’s Alliance, Riverside Cultural Consortium, and Shumway Ranch.Org. Foster has nine full-time years of university education at USC-Marshall School of Business (BS); UC San Diego-Revelle College (Art & Philosophy); San Francisco Art Institute (MFA-double degree with honors in New Genres and Sculpture).

DEADLINE IS JULY 14: The submissions will close when the applications reach gallery capacity. So don’t delay in submitting. Accepted artists will be notified on July 21st via email of pieces juried into the show. Additional details will follow for accepted artists. Entering does not guarantee acceptance. COAL reserves the right to reject artwork that is not presented as per these submission requirements.
ACCEPTED MEDIA CATEGORIES: Oil; Acrylics; Watermedia; Other Media (Includes: Pastels, Drawing, Inks, Printmaking, and Alcohol ink); Mixed Media/Collage; Photography; Digital Art; Sculpture\Wall Hanging Sculpture; and Textiles. Giclée’s are accepted but not judged. AI is not accepted. Any works that have won a previous cash award in a previous NCAG/COAL Open Show are not eligible for awards. No work using copyrighted source material unless you own the copyright.
ENTER ONLINE: Apply here: (Not active until April 1)
ENTRY FEES: Members: $35 for up to 2 each, and $15 for each 1) additional entry. Non-Members: $40 for up to 2 each, and $15 for each 1 additional entry.
SUBMIT: Up to 3 pieces, only 1 may be large up to 60 inches (measured on the diagonal). All entries in total, and combined dimensions, must not exceed 100” in total diagonal measurement. Oversized entries not meeting these requirements will not be accepted.
Prepare your images ahead of time. Images must not exceed 2mgs, and each JPEG must have the artist’s name and title listed as the filename of the JPEG. EX: CSmith_Chasingsnails. (not placed onto the image). Make certain your diagonal measurements are correct.
Acceptable file formats are .jpeg, .jpg, or .png of 2mg maximum file size. iPhone users must changethe default HEIC camera setting to JPEG, or convert the image yourself.
BE PREPARED BEFORE SUBMITTING: Here are tools to use to assist you in downsizing/changing images formats, measuring, and renaming before submitting.

ARTIST REQUIREMENTS:
- All art must be for sale. All pricing much include CA Sales Tax at 7;750% in the total. Price your artwork in round numbers, for sales. (We take credit cards, and only exact cash is accepted). Commission is 20%. + 3″ for a credit card.
- Clean, chipped, or dirty work will not be accepted.
- No Glass on fronts on art over 18×24 inches in size.
- All 2D art not framed must be gallery wrapped or sides painted.
- All art must be sturdy, hanging wire with D-rings properly, with the wire stretched at the apex 3″ inches from the top of the frame or artwork for hanging on our systems. Additional guidelines will be provided with your application for downloading. Download the wiring instructions here.
- All diptych/triptychs are eligible if they are hinged/secured together; otherwise, they count as individual paid pieces.
- All 3D Sculptures (free-standing or 3D Wall-hanging Sculptures) must not exceed 5′ feet in height. (60″ inches)
- All 3D Sculpture (requiring a pedestal) must not exceed 40 lbs. in weight, or be taller than 24″ inches with a base no larger than 14″ inches. Bases must be protected with rubber or furniture protectors to not scratch the acrylic.
MEMBER HOSTS: Accepted artists and/or non-accepted artists can support the show by choosing your Hosting dates starting on July 21st – August 1. Thank you.
ART DROP OFF: August 3, the Gallery is open 9:30am – 1pm for take-in. In person or via substitute person only. No early drop offs, we simply have no storage space, please plan ahead for delivery.
HOLD HARMLESS/LIABILITY WAIVER: All artists are required to sign our agreement, which is included in your application online. Please review it carefully before submitting.
SALES: Price must include sales tax. The gallery takes 20% + 3% (if a credit card) is used for purchase. Art sold may be replaced for a fee of $10 to the gallery on the date of the replacement, and provided to the Hosting staff for placement on the walls.

Sign-up is open now for the show. Space is limited, and the deadline to apply is June 15th, but don’t delay; it fills fast.
Located in the Carlsbad Village Faire Plaza Shops. The artists are seen in the round and visited by tourists, locals, and shoppers alike. A fun time is always enjoyed by all.
Get out there and sell your work; there is a small fee to enter, but no commission goes to the gallery. You can donate if you would like, that is always appreciated, but not a requirement.

Annual Open Holiday Small Image Awards Show – DEC
Opens for registration on October 7, 2025
We are decking the walls of the gallery and the storefront in anticipation of a great holiday with tons of traffic. Glitter it up and sparkle. Every year during the holiday season in December, the Gallery sends greetings to all artists seeking small images no larger than 19″ (on the diagonal measurement, including frame) in size for this awarded holiday exhibition. Sell, gift, and enjoy! Juried and awards. We also offer a 10% off Sale during this show, so price accordingly. Prospectus/Applications accepted on October 7
