Norma Pratt

Artist’s Statement

When I paint, I am completely absorbed in my work.  I can travel to exotic places, sit in a beautiful garden, or maybe sunbathe on a deserted beach.

I hope that you will feel the same way when looking at my pictures.

Artist’s Bio

Norma was born and raised in England where her artistic talent was recognized early and was encouraged to pursue her abilities.  She studied art in England and has taken many classes in California with a variety of well-known instructors.

She has traveled throughout Western Europe and to many other parts of the world.  Her background and travels have been a strong influence on her work.

She started painting professionally in the early 70s with oil; took a long break to raise her children, and has now changed her media to watercolor, which she finds more challenging.

Norma has been active in showing and selling her watercolor paintings since 1990 to both local collectors and visitors from all over the world.  She can be found, showing her work, most weekends on the lawn in front of the Carlsbad Inn, Carlsbad, CA.

Norma is currently an active member of COAL – Carlsbad Oceanside Art League

Her past memberships include the:  San Diego Watercolor Society; San Diego Art Guild; Escondido Art Association; Lake San Marcos Art Association

Art has been woven into my life since childhood, when my father would sit my siblings and me around the kitchen table with a bowl of fruit to paint. From those early sessions, I carried forward his love of art into a lifelong exploration of form, color, and expression.

Being born in Germany I was surrounded by the Woodcut Prints of Albrecht Durer, Kathie Kollwitz, Ernst Barlach, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, and Franz Marc, just to name a few. As they did, I use special woodcut tools and shun electrical tools to stay true to the tradition.
