Diane Adams
Artist Statement
Diane Adams works in a variety of media from printmaking to photography. Her favorite medium is watercolor which she teaches at MiraCosta College. She is also the gallery director there. Adams sometimes feels like she should have a pseudonym because she likes to paint both traditional, realistic paintings and non-representational, fantasy paintings.
Artist Bio
Nature-inspired, Diane’s paintings are filled with textures, rock, plant and water imagery. To develop her compositions, she uses memories of places visited, photographs, and natural objects she has collected while camping or hiking in the mountains and deserts. In a class taught by, Robert Perine, she was encouraged to experiment and explore the many facets of watercolor. The resulting paintings evolved into images that she calls dreamscapes. The pieces serve as vehicles to express her thoughts about interconnections, the passage of time, stability versus change, calm versus turmoil, the seen and unseen, and her love of nature and texture. For a number of years, she has been mixing watercolors with pastels, pencils, acrylics, and other media to get an ethereal, dreamlike effect in her paintings. She also likes to watercolor on plexi-glass to create monoprints of the scenes she has hiked to in the Sierras.
2022 has been a busy year. This year Diane’s work has been exhibited at the Escondido Municipal Gallery, San Diego County Fair, Cannon Gallery, COAL 70th Annual Juried Exhibit, and the Kruglak Gallery. Her work has been included in such prestigious shows as the San Diego Watercolor Society International, San Diego Art Institute Annuals, and the Cannon Gallery’s Premier Juried Exhibit. She has won numerous awards in the Southern California Fine Arts Exhibits, COAL, SDAI exhibits, Fallbrook Art Association Juried Show, La Jolla Art Association Annual, and the San Diego Watercolor Society Exhibits. She was a 20-year member of Fallbrook’s Brandon Gallery. Diane’s paintings have been featured in the San Diego Magazine, on the cover of the MiraCosta College Catalog, and in Artists of Southern California.
