Artist’s Statement

An environmental research project administrator by training and an artist by choice, I believe that identical skills apply to both art and research. Research requires a creative mind and art requires technology. Both sides of the brain come into play for a work of art to be successful: Technical and creative aspects of painting are essential in the development of an emotional response in the observer. I look for harmonious color, composition, drawing and mystery.

The subject matter is also important, but the power and resulting statement of each painting comes from the creative interpretation of the work. My goal is to capture the emotion of a moment and to entice the viewer to find a personal relationship to my paintings.
